Leadership is about inspiration. Inspiring your team can often be as simple as listening and acting on their ideas. Creating a feeling of engagement and ensuring the team have real influence over the outcome is far more likely to inspire your team to perform at the peak of their abilities. When every member of your team is inspired to perform at their peak you achieve true synergy. A fully engaged, fully synergistic team will produce bigger opportunities and greater allegiance to the leader.
Howard Schultz of Starbucks, in his book “Lessons from the Top: The Search for America’s Best Business Leaders,” writes, “You won’t be able to attract and retain great people if they don’t feel like they are part of the authorship of the strategy and the authorship of the really critical issues. If you don’t give people an opportunity to really be engaged, they won’t stay.”
